PGSS insurance enrolment and withdrawal information:
The change-of-coverage period is the period at the beginning of the semester when you can opt out or enrol yourself, your spouse and your dependants in the PGSS health and dental plan. If you are a new student starting in the fall semester, you can enroll yourself, your spouse, and your dependants between August 23rd and September 28th, 2017 for coverage from September 1st, 2017 until August 31, 2018.
You can not opt out of the Studentcare plan unless you have equivalent coverage. The Studentcare plan will help cover your extended health benefits such as psychologists, dental cleanings, glasses and prescriptions. If you are a Canadian resident your provincial health care card will help cover basic health care such as hospitalization and surgery. In Quebec residents are also covered by RaMQ prescription drug insurance, for more information regarding the prescription drug insurance plan for Quebec click here. The RaMQ site will also help break down what your Annual premium will be, for tax purposes the Studentcare plan is considered a student plan, not a private plan. For more information on how to file your taxes as a graduate student PGSS has a Financial week (date TBA for 2018).
Postdoctoral fellows have 30 days after their registration to enrol in the PGSS health and dental plan.
Please note that part-time students aren't automatically enrolled in the PGSS health and dental plan, but have the option to enrol during the change-of-coverage period.
