Internal Affairs Officer
Mina N. Anadolu
Term: June 1, 2016- May 31, 2017
Hello PGSS members! My name is Mina Anadolu. I am a Ph.D. student in Neuroscience and I am excited to continue my term as Internal Affairs Officer (IAO) during the 2016-2017 mandate!
The role of the IAO is to organize events and workshops to enrich your post-graduate experience and to foster a sense of community among PGSS members through engagement and recruitment. The IAO also enables information flow from PGSS to you via the bi-monthly Newswire.
My approach is based on three principles: Collaborative Effort, Fact-Based Decision Making and an Inclusive Events Portfolio.
Collaborative Effort: My collaborations with a wide range of clubs and services on campus have been very fruitful last year in terms of increasing the visibility and accessibility of clubs and services among PGSS members. These collaborations have not only increased student participation in PGSS events, but have also brought together individuals with similar interests whom otherwise would not have met each other. I will be multiplying these efforts in the upcoming year to make the spirit of collaboration the unifying factor that brings the PGSS community closer together. If you are a representative or a club or service on campus or if you simply have an idea you would like to bring to life, send me an email and let's get started!
Fact-Based Decision Making: Last year we collected a significant amount of data from our members regarding PGSS events through improved registration forms and feedback forms sent to participants after each event. All of the decisions regarding 2016-2017 events will be made based on this data. This data is collected anonymously and is available to the public; if you are a representative of a PGSA, Student Club or Service, you can request this data from us to improve your services! We will continue to improve our services during the year based on the feedback we receive from you, so if you have any constructive feedback please share it with us! We take each and every comment very seriously!
Inclusive Events Portfolio: I am diversifying the PGSS Events Portfolio to reflect the interests of our diverse, multicultural and multilingual community. I have scheduled 100 events for the 2016-2017 mandate, which are subdivided into the following categories: Environment, Equity and Diversity, Family Friendly, Health and Wellness, Orientation, Student Welfare, Community Building/Social, Sustainable Thomson House and Professional Development. This is to ensure that ALL PGSS members are represented and that there is something of interest for everyone. This structure will also ensure the sustainability of inclusive initiatives for upcoming years.
