MIT's Fishbanks: Renewable Resource Management Simulation Game

Do you like games? Do you like learning about sustainable resources? Join your PGSS peers for some educational fun at your favorite spot on campus! Fishbanks is MIT Management School multiplayer web-based simulation in which participants play the role of fishers and seek to maximize their net worth as they compete against other players and deal with variations in fish stocks and their catch. Participants buy, sell, and build ships; decide where to fish; and negotiate with one another. Policy options available to instructors include auctions of new boats, permits, and quotas. The main learning objective is to provide the opportunity for students to learn about the challenges of managing resources sustainably in a common pool resource setting, with realistic resource dynamics. This event is offered hybrid, in person or online.

Winterlude & Skating: Rideau Canal Ottawa 2023

Join PGSS in a day trip to explore the a highlight of winter in Ottawa -the Rideau Canal Skateway, the world’s largest skating rink. Skate through the heart of downtown Ottawa on the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The trip is unguided so you can explore Ottawa at your leisure throughout the day. The Skateway is 7.8 kilometres long, and begins just steps from Canada’s Parliament Buildings. The scenic skating rink extends to Dows Lake.
